Urban Chic Goes Camo

I may be going backward where the trends are concerned, but I don't always follow them anyway. Fridays are casual in my office so I decided instead of denim, I was going camoflauge!
Last weekend I purchased the nude heels I had been hunting for two years and now I want to wear them - with everything. I bought these camoflauge cargo pants on thrift about 4 years ago. Originally, they were purchased to be part of a Lara Croft costume. I decided to keep them in my closet once Halloween was over.

I have only worn these pants a handful of times since then as I usually struggle with what to pair with them for a top and shoes. Previously, I have worn them with a black or brown top and low boots, but that seems a bit too boring and like an attempt at military.
I had to go downtown to the city on Friday to have my fingerprints taken for a low level security clearance. That meant a trip into the police station. My husband is a police officer in the county surrounding the city limits but I have never entered a police station in my ENTIRE life. I had no idea what I would encounter.
This bicycle is chained up right outside the front door to the station!

I wanted to look chic but not vulnerable since it also meant I would have to walk a bit to get to the station. When I was a teen my mother would make me read Womans Day articles about the dangers of walking alone in the city, in parking decks and those kinds of things. I'm glad she did because it gave me a healthy fear of the dangers women face in the world and makes me very alert to my surroundings. Nothing bad has happened to me yet!  Thanks Mom!!

Instead of my usual black or brown, I decided Pink would be the perfect girly color top to pair with my camo. Captured in this photo are my constant companions Blackberry, sunglasses and Boyfriend Watch by Fossil.

In spite of the pink, I still wanted to have an edge to the outfit. This pink belt with grommets came on a pair of jeans about 8 years ago and seemed like the perfect accessory to add the edge I needed.

WOW - do I love these shoes! I have owned them a week and worn them at least four times. There is just the right amount of arch support to make them wearable for walking in the city without discomfort. The platform helps too. I really like the tall nude heels with these camo pants SO much better than the boots. Wearing the peep toes instead of boots brings these pants into the Spring season effortlessly.
Here is the view of Grace St where I needed to be for my fingerprints. This is OLD downtown in the city. I rarely make it down here. Although I am anticipating downtown will be a new frequent destination in about 3 weeks.

The area I chose for my photoshoot is a new development in the county: Short Pump Downtown. I really love the way they have planned it out. The brick streets are nice and the architecture makes me almost wish I could live in one of the condos here. I plan to check out the Irish pub Keagans sometime soon. Wonder how the beer selection and prices are?
Brick paved streets and wide grassy medians.
The black railings and balconies have such an urban feel to them. Funny it is being built on what was cow pasture just 3 or 4 years ago.

Pink plus camo plus nude heels equals casual Friday happiness!! What do you wear in place of denim on Casual Friday?
